Labrador Retriever Pups (Black male and female available)

DESCRIPTION

The mother of these pups is a young, smaller,black female. She is a quiet, affectionate dog, always the first to warn us of an approaching visitor to our farm, human or otherwise. She possesses the most exceptional mothering skills of any whelping labrador mother I have seen. Her female pups should be high potential breeding mothers if they inherit her mothering instinct (one available). Unlike many labrador mothers , she never looks like putting her pups in any danger of suffocation . She is fastidious about keeping her pups, and the whelping area, clean. She initiated the weaning process herself by bringing them solid food.

The sire is a young chocolate male with outstanding gun dog genes. One of his grandfathers was a field retrieving champion. His father was our own dog and an outstanding retriever in his own right. He is a lean medium framed dog with an incredible retrieving instinct and an affectionate nature. He has an outstanding nose and will run all day beside the four wheel motorbike unless I make him jump on the back and ride.

Our family have kept labradors for 3 generations as working retriever / farm dogs. Our dogs run mostly free on our farm. They are not caged which we believe contributes to their overall good health, sound structure and confirmation. While we don't consider ourselves to be professional dog breeders (this will be our first litter in the last three years), we are registered sheep breeders, and we do have strong breed values we aim for when breeding our pups. We consider our dogs to be family members, rather than commercial breeding stock like our sheep.

Our breed values are:
1. Quiet temperament. Some labradors can be a bit too energetic. We believe a quiet labrador that is happy to sleep makes for a more biddable and easy to manage family member.
2. Compact size and sound structure. We prefer to breed from smaller, leaner parents. An ideal labrador does not need to be a huge dog.
3. Affectionate nature. Whether our pups are placed with country families who use our dogs for retrieving or with city families, we think of Labradors as loyal love dogs first.
4. Retrieving ability and nose. Labradors are bred to retrieve. They love to work and the relationship between a labrador and its owner is strengthened if they work together. When a lab faces the challenge of finding and retrieving something and is rewarded for its skill, the bond between the dog and the owner is strengthened.

5. Labrador as family member. People who choose labradors (why would you choose any other breed?) as a pet usually find that they grow to love their lab as much as they would a child.

6. Human training skills. We can tell you many stories about the ways our dogs have successfully trained their humans. One of our extended labrador family members told us about their dogs transition from being an outside in the garage dog to an inside dog and now a bedroom dog!

Many of the families who have acquired one our pups from past litters keep in touch and update us about their new family members. Some of these dogs are pictured below to give you an idea of what our pups look like when they are grown up. All the dogs pictured are relatives of the pups in our current litter.
