This is a large format hardback book that comes in a hard slipcase.
In 1968 Australian teenager Bruce Jackson dropped out of university to build stroboscopes, amplifiers and colour-organs for the psychedelic light show culture. Little did he know that in just three years he'd be on the road managing Elvis' sound and about to change forever how live concert sound was presented. In six years with the Elvis Presley Show, Bruce and Elvis established an unusually close professional and personal bond. Bruce's inventions and technical advances were soon adopted by the entire touring industry.
Bruce was killed flying his own plane in Death Valley, California in 2011. He was a keen collector of memorabilia and left a haunting day-to-day record of his life on the road. Written in the voice of Bruce's younger brother plus interviews with colleagues, this fascinating book is a fitting tribute to Bruce and Elvis.
It's a magnificent, inspirational book that resonates deeply on so many levels, from Bruce's childhood surrounded by celebrity in a Sydney hotel, to the time of Bruce's outstanding career with Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand and many others. The book is more than tour tales with Elvis, although it has enough of those to guarantee sales to his fans. It weaves the story of the Jackson family with a veritable history of the start of the Australian and global pop music industry from the 1960s.
