REAL is trying to stop the dumbing down of people's choices in terms of entertainment. It's trying to show them that you can go and see something that is entertaining but not necessarily vacuous or superficial, that doesn't have people in it that weigh 5 kilos less than everybody else in the world and are always happy and well made-up. I think that documentaries can make people feel better about themselves, too, and given the opportunity, I'm sure there's a lot of people out there who would really like to go and see these films – if they knew about them. – REAL featival director Hilary Blackman
