This study guide has been created to accompany the documentary Shark Harbour (Michael Lynch, 2011). The film could be used as part of a study topic or unit of work on ocean habitats. It tells the story of a spate of shark attacks in Sydney Harbour during the summer of 2009 and the scientific investigations of the specialist 'Shark Research Team' commissioned by the NSW government in response to the surge in attacks. Marine biologists Dr. Amy Smoothey and Professor Vic Peddemors seek to find if – in a city of nearly 4.5 million people, surrounded by much loved and used waterways – sharks and humans can safely coexist.
