Inspired in part by Helen Keller, Black tells the story of a deaf, mute and blind girl coming of age in India and repaying the help that her ailing former teacher previously gave to her. Mark Rafidi explains how it can be used to explore, among other things, filmic narrative techniques, the themes of perseverance and success against the odds, and issues surrounding disability, gender and class.
