Horton Hears a Who! is a film that tells the story of two worlds – one large and one very, very, very small. The film is based upon the very popular and highly successful book of the same name by Theodor Seuss Geisel, known to most people as Dr. Seuss.
It all begins with a little speck of dust. When a cataclysmic event causes this tiny speck of dust to become displaced, it is sent floating through the air. Horton the elephant is enjoying life in the Jungle of Nool when he notices the speck and hears what sounds like a tiny voice coming from it. Could the voice possibly be calling for help?
To his surprise, Horton discovers a small boy named Jo-jo and other Whos living in the city of Whoville on the speck. Horton tries to show his neighbours ... but no one else can hear it, and they don't believe him. He tries to explain, 'If you were way out in space, and you looked down at where we live, WE would look like a speck.'
Horton is convinced that there's an infinitesimal world living on that piece of dust, and it needs his help. If left floating through the jungle, it would surely be destroyed. Horton vows to find a place where the speck will be safe. He will have to fight against his entire community who believe he's gone mad and are determined to stop him.
We quickly learn that Horton was absolutely right. Living on the speck is an imaginative population of 'Whos' who are about to learn that their entire world is vulnerable to destruction, and Horton is their only hope. When disaster is about to strike they must listen to Horton and band together to save their world and Horton's credibility in the jungle.
