Diawa Tierra Reel Buying Guide
Since we have quite a few sizes for sale in the series, it only makes sense we let you know a little more about each model and their purpose. Here in our short and sweet buying guide you’ll discover which size is likely to be the best fit for your desired application. We also offer a simple guide in regards to fishing rod choice.
Small Sizes
The 2000 and 2500 will cover you from the mountain streams to the estuaries. While brilliant finesse reels, 2500 has 10kg of max drag, giving the small reel an acute touch of brute.
Typically a 2000 or 2500 Size Diawa Tiarre fishing reel will pair well with 6-8ft inshore rods with appraised line ratings between 2-6kg.
Medium Sizes
The 3000, 4000 or 5000 are specials for sports work against the likes of Murray cod and barra. They may look small, but 12kg of ATD drag delivers substantial stopping power. We like the 4000/5000 as a lightweight surf option too. It’s great for Aussie salmon and tailor, and it casts light line a country mile.
For heaver style inshore fishing and light offshore fishing, we recommend 6-7ft 6 inch length rods with line ratings of around 4-8kg in class.
For light rock or surf fishing, typically we suggest 8-10ft 6 inches as the ideal rod length. We also believe the 4000/5000 size is the better option to suit. Most rock and surf rods though are quite heavy, but there are a few light class options about around 4-6kg in ratings, which would be more than ideal. Let us know If you can’t find a suitable rod and we will point you in the right direction.
Large Sizes
The 6000 is excellent as a surf and rock go-to reel, but will also handle superbly outside the heads. Work the reef for large reds, or cast poppers at modest trevally or smaller Tuna. Again, there’s plenty of drag power and enough spool capacity to handle a sizable fish.
For modest offshore fishing, graphite rods around 6-7ft 6 inches in length rated 8-10kg plus make a good choice for the 6000. For beach or rock fishing rods 8-12ft rated 6kg+ generally will go with the 6000 Tierra.
Benefits
ATD is the vital feature come hook-up, reduced initial start-up inertia ensures you don’t get smoked before the fight has even begun.
The EVA knob seems to encourage a confident crank. The great feel in your hand inspires confidence.
The LT concept body is the heart of the lightweight design. All gears and bearings remain protected, and in perfect sync inside the rigid alloy shell.
Need to hit the last line of breakers? Need to smash into a distant reef from the rocks? Or do you need to sit the boat back a little from the school of Tuna, so you don’t spook them? The long cast spool ensures your target zone is generally expansive.
Infinite anti-reverse eliminates back play in the handle.
Five plus ball bearings is a significant inclusion at this price point. Working hand in glove with the silky smooth Digigear, the crank is firm yet velvety.
The Daiwa Tiera Reel has been and still is one of Daiwa’s true stayers. Now, with the LT concept body, the Tiera fishing reel has punched up a grade in performance. Few spinning reels can match the performance, feel and inclusions for the price.
The Daiwa Tierra Reel is back making headlines, and it’s well inside your budget. Put one in your cart today or why not go with two sizes in your trolley, and cover a bunch of fishing options. The 2500 and the 6000 make a great duo.
