1958 Gilera 175 Rossa Extra

Gilera was founded in 1909 by Giuseppe Gilera, and after introducing many avant-garde creations, the tiny company would go on to become the most dominate manufacturer in motorcycle Grand Prix racing. While Alfa Romeo ruled the world of 4-wheel Grand Prix racing, it was Gilera that owned that mantle in world of motorcycle grand prix racing.

From their modest factory in Arcore, Italy, Gilera's factory riders won an amazing six World Championships in eight years, and five manufacturers' titles. While their racing exploits generated enormous publicity, their racing weas only made possible through the sale of road bikes, the majority of which were small commuters based on their overhead-valve 125 single engine that first appeared in prototype form in 1948. Developed and enlarged first to 150cc and then 175cc, these simple OHV singles were top sellers throughout the 1950s and into the 1960s, although their high price outside Italy made them a relatively rare sight abroad.

Release of their much awaited 175cc version was presented in 1956 with the name of 150V, before being rebranded the G175. After the addition of few more models at the end of 1956, two more were added in 1957 with the Sport, which featured a Gran Turismo engine, and a higher specification model branded the “Rossa Extra”, which featured a more race orientated higher output engine.

The spectacular Rosso Extra has been beautifully restored and is perfect mechanically and cosmetically. This Rosso is fitted with FMI Gold Plate and sits on the Gilera Historic Register. Located with our Ital partner the advertised price includes shipping and arrival charges into .
