Trailing Pratia, Matted Pratia, Pratia pedunculata
Pratia pedunculata (Trailing Pratia) is native to Australia, whilst Pratia angulata (White Star Creeper) is native to New Zealand.
Pratia angulata has larger leaves, thicker stems and its growth is more vigorous than pedunculata, growing to 100mm in height.
By comparison, pedunculata looks delicate, almost dainty. It gets smothered in small white flowers at times and only grows to 30mm in height which makes it great for between pavers in a partially shaded area.
We have only seen Trailing Pratia grow up to 20-33mm in height and its robust nature means that it will accommodate light foot traffic. Both will accommodate light foot traffic, although if angulata were 100mm in height it would not like being walked on.
Both varieties will need a spot that is protected from the harsh afternoon sunshine given their origins.
Trailing Pratia is dainty plant that spreads from underground stolons to form a carpet of tiny green leaves, and in spring and summer will produce a mass of beautiful, tiny, starry white flowers.
Can be grown in full sun or partial shade but does like adequate water and is frost tender.
Looks magic when planted in a container, hanging basket or window box.
