Pay Safely

We can't tell you which payment methods to use, however we can suggest ways of paying that are safe.

Safer payment methods:

  • Offer financial and anti-fraud protection.

  • Don't reveal your details.

  • Produce a record of the transaction and can refund money.

Banned payment methods

We have banned the use of money transfer services like Western Union. We know that fraudulent buyers and sellers use these services and there's no protection for you once your money has been transferred. Avoid using these services when you're buying from someone you don't know.

Tips and advice

  • Be suspicious if a seller wants to change payment methods. Don't pay a seller who tells you that a safe payment method is unavailable after you've committed to buy.

  • Use a payment method you feel comfortable with. Don't be afraid to ask the seller if they'll accept a different payment method and be wary if they refuse. You may want to withdraw your offer.

  • Keep your receipt. You might need it later if there is a dispute.

  • Keep up to date with scams. We publish regular updates on the latest frauds here.

  • Don't send money overseas. Sellers must live in Australia. If you're asked to send money outside the country, we want to know about it. Email us.

  • Be wary when buying or selling rare or expensive items. Scammers often use these goods to attract their victims. Get as much information about the seller or buyer as you can.

  • Talk to the seller before you pay. This will help you confirm that you have their correct contact details and you'll get a better idea of who you're dealing with.

  • Never send cash in the mail. Kind of a no-brainer but you'd be surprised at how often this happens.

What if you forget your password?

  • Check the website address of the site you're on before you enter your password or personal information.

  • Never send your username or password in an email

  • If you're not sure if you're on the genuine PuppyList site open another browser window and type www.puppylist.com.au into the address field.

  • Beware of phishing emails asking you to confirm or provide personal details.

  • We'll never send you an email asking you to sign into your account by clicking on a link.

  • Avoid using public computers to trade and transact online.

Public computers (i.e. computers at internet cafes or libraries) can store your personal information making it possible for other people to access it. It's important that you use a trusted and secure computer to access sites where you need to enter your personal details or use your credit card.

  • Change your password regularly.

  • Don't use the same password for your PuppyList profile as you do for other websites.

  • Create a strong password that contains a combination of numbers and letters.

This will make it harder to guess.

  • If you think your profile or password has been compromised change your password immediately and email us.
