is delighted to offer for sale an Australian delivered, factory right hand drive 2003 Ferrari 360 Modena equipped with the highly desirable 6-speed manual gearbox.

This car is presented in its original and stunning colour, ‘Canna di Fucile’ as confirmed by the PPG paint sticker on the car. It was delivered to its first owner who lived in Adelaide by Maranello Imports in Sydney on 18th July 2003. The first service is recorded in the service book as being completed by Prestige Formula in Adelaide on the 4th February 2004 at 1,502 km. By August 2006 the car had found its way to Sydney and the second service was completed by Italia Motori on the 21st August 2006 at 5,775 km. As recorded in the service book the car was regularly serviced by Ferrari over the next few years. By at least early 2013 the car had found its way to Queensland and it had a cam belt service carried out by Ferrari specialists Automation on the 24th June 2013 at 23,556 km. Its then owner is known to and he used and enjoyed the car as its makers intended travelling some 10,000 km in his two years of ownership. He was approached by a client of Automation on the lookout for a manual Ferrari 360 and the car was reluctantly sold in late 2015. Automation continued to service the car on a regular basis, the details of which are recorded in the service book along with accompanying invoices for work carried out.

The current owner acquired the car in 2018 and at that time the odometer read 39,362km. In his ownership the car has been used sparingly and today the odometer reads 40,040km

Today this car presents beautifully. The colour is striking and it looks even better in the flesh than it does in the photos. The yellow brake callipers are a nice touch, colour coordinating with the Ferrari shields on the front guards, the wheel caps and of course the prancing horse badge on the nose. Overall the paint is in very good condition and it still has a deep gloss and strong depth of colour. Upon closer inspection there are a few minor stone chips on the car, consistent with a car that has been used. They are most noticeable on the front bumper, though there are a few on the nose. Let’s not forget, this car is now nearly 22 years old!

The wheels are a real feature on a Ferrari 360 and they are generally in good condition all around. There are a few marks and very small chips here and there, but there is no kerb rash. The wheels are shod with Pirelli P Zero tyres, size 215/45 ZR18 at the front and 275/40 ZR18 at the rear. The front tyres are date stamped 0216 (week 2, 2016) and the rear tyres are date stamped 5116 (week 51, 2016). The tyres are still in good condition but probably should be replaced based on age if the next owner wants to do some serious driving in the car.

The interior presents very well. The seats are comfortable and provide ample support. They are in very good condition with no rips or tears evident in the leather. There is only some very minor discoloration in the base of the driver’s seat, which is something a good leather doctor could easily correct. The leather on the top dashboard top is showing signs of starting to ripple.

All the gauges in the dashboard present well. They are clear and all appear to be in good working order. Ferraris from this period often suffer from ‘sticky’ switches. That is not the case in this car.

With a Ferrari it is all about the drive and we were curious to see how this manual 360 Modena performed. The car is fitted with an immobilizer so you will have to disable that before you can start the car. You then simply turn the key and the car starts easily, even from cold. It then quickly settles into a smooth idle. First impressions are good, the engine sounds amazing. Nothing says ‘Ferrari’ more than a gated shifter. There is just something about hearing that metal sound when you are changing gears. Paddles are for canoes right!

This car is very easy to drive. Out on the open road it performs exceptionally well. The engine is the heart and soul of every Ferrari and in this car the throttle response is instant and the car just wants to go! The gear changes are smooth both up and down the box and the car feels solid on the road. The suspension is firm as one would expect with the low profile tyres on the car. Having that high performance V8 engine right behind you and being able to see it every time you look in your rear view mirror is just adding to the experience.

Whilst the driver would always prefer a windy country road, the car is equally at home at cruising speed on the highway or in traffic. On our test drive we encountered all of the above and the car behaved well at all times.

From the documentation on file the timing belt was last replaced when the odometer read 23,556 km. The current owner is adamant it has been replaced in his ownership, however, to be safe we recommend that it is done now. This can be discussed with any prospective purchaser.

The service book confirms this car retains its original engine, so it is therefore a matching numbers example.

Accompanying the car is a complete book set, in the correct leather pouch with its original and stamped service book, service invoices going back to 2013, an original tool kit and original tyre inflation kit.

Highlights:

Australian delivered, factory right-hand drive, matching numbers example.
Beautifully presented in a great colour scheme.

All tags and stickers in place.

Background

Apple, Coca-Cola, McDonalds and Nike are brands recognisable the world over. So is Ferrari and interestingly the iconic Italian luxury sports car manufacturer was named ‘The World’s Strongest Brand’ in the 2019 Brand Finance Global 500 Report.

Founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1939 out of Alfa Romeo’s race division as Auto Avio Costruzioni the company built its first car in 1940. The Second World War halted Ferrari’s dream, which was finally realised in 1947, when the first car bearing his name, the Ferrari 125 S, was built. From that day on Ferrari race cars dominated the world over, winning race after race and many world championships in Formula One, sports car racing and endurance racing. Ferrari built exclusive sports cars for the road too, but in the early days, this was primarily to fund his motor racing!

The Cavallino Rampate or ‘prancing horse’ was the symbol chosen by Ferrari and like the ‘golden arches’ it is recognised by just about every man, woman and child on the planet!

The Ferrari road cars from the 1940’s and early to mid-1950’s were built in very small numbers and it was not until the introduction of the 250 series cars that production numbers increased. Almost 1,000 Ferrari 250 GTE’s were built from 1959 – 1963. The 250 series also produced some of the most special Ferraris ever built, including the Ferrari 250 LM, 250 SWB, 250 California Spider and of course the 250 GTO. The 250 series cars were superseded by the 275 series cars, the 330 series cars and later the 365 series cars. The nomenclature designated the cubic capacity of each cylinder. So a Ferrari 330 was powered by a 12 cylinder engine of 3,967cc capacity.

The Ferrari 308 GTB was introduced at the 1975 Paris Motor Show, essentially to replace the 246 Dino GT. The car was designed to fit between the top of the range 365 GT/4 Berlinetta Boxer and 2+2 308 GT/4. In 1977 Ferrari introduced the 308 GTS, which was essentially the same car with a targa roof. The car was made famous through its appearance on the TV show Magnum PI. The model evolved into the 308 GTBi / 308 GTSi in 1980 when Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection replaced the traditional Weber carburettors. Two years later the four valves per cylinder “Quattrovalvole” or “QV” was introduced. The 308 was an incredible success and circa 12,000 cars were built from 1975 to 1985 before the 328 was introduced.

The 328 GTB / GTS was essentially an updated version of the 308 with the same engine as its predecessor, but with an increased capacity of 3,185 cc. Interestingly 328 GTS production out numbered 328 GTB production by a factor of five to one.

In total Ferrari built 7,412 328’s, comprising 6,068 328 GTS’ and 1,344 328 GTB’s throughout 4 years of production.

The 348 TB and TS replaced the 328 in 1989 and remained in production through until 1995 when it was replaced by the F355. The 348 today is not recognised as being one of Ferraris finest, however, this is probably unfair as the 348 was a great success and in total 8,844 cars were produced thoughout the six years of production.

The F355 was first introduced in May 1994 and it was a game changer. It bought a fresh look and an upgraded engine. It became the first Ferrari to be fitted with a 5 valve cylinder head. It remained in production until 1999 and in total 11,273 were produced before it was superseded by the Ferrari 360.

The F355 was a tough act to follow, however, Ferrari couldn’t afford to rest on its laurels. The 360 Modena was first shown at 1999 Geneva Motor Show. Gone were the angular lines of its predecessor. Pininfarina’s latest design was all curves and the 360 Modena was very well received. This model was a great success for Ferrari before being replaced by the F430 in 2004.

Ferrari production numbers for the 360 series are not formally documented, however, it is generally accepted that 8,800 360 Modena’s were built of which 2,630 were delivered with a manual gearbox. There were 352 factory right hand drive examples delivered to the UK with a manual gearbox.  It is not known how many Australian delivered 360 Modenas were supplied with a manual gearbox, but they are few and far between!

Additionally, it is generally understood that Ferrari built 7,579 360 Spiders and 1,288 360 Challenge Stradales.
